Claudia - Audi 80 CL 1983.
An obvious choice - the name consists of both "CL" and "Audi"!

Gretchen - Audi 80 GTE 1978.
Gretchen is a German form for the name "Greta", meaning "little Greta".

Elsa - Audi 80 LS 1976.
Naturally because of the letters "LS".

Ilse - Audi 100 LS 1974.
Another name with the letters "LS" in it, and a German name too. Thanks to Kevin Thompson for the suggestion!

Katinka - Audi 100 Avant 2.3E 1988.
I thought long and hard to come up with a suitable name for this black beuaty. Thinking of things that are black I came up with "ink", which led me to Katinka. Having a catalytic exhaust converter - in Swedish usually shortened to "kat", the name was even more justified!

Previous cars:

Ellen - Audi 80 L 1975.
When you refer to "the L" in Swedish, it's "L-en". Hence, Ellen!

Lydia - Audi 80 CL 1984.
Named after her license plate letters LYY, and being Claudia's sister.

Beloved Daniel took his own life away.
Now his traces are conspicuous.
Daniel Come Here.
Gathering all that strengthen a portrait that he could approve.
White whales are now abundant around you
and there should be no reason to feel blue.
Just tell us about it so you won’t be alone
and please don’t turn yourself into stone.

You say you’ve told us innumerable times
without the sound of any soothing chimes.
You say it’s time to anchor and go ashore.
Should we not search further anymore?

Gates Of Eden

Of war and peace the truth just twists
Its curfew gull just glides
Upon four-legged forest clouds
The cowboy angel rides
With his candle lit into the sun
Though its glow is waxed in black
All except when 'neath the trees of Eden

The lamppost stands with folded arms
Its iron claws attached
To curbs 'neath holes where babies wail
Though it shadows metal badge
All and all can only fall
With a crashing but meaningless blow
No sound ever comes from the Gates of Eden

The savage soldier sticks his head in sand
And then complains
Unto the shoeless hunter who's gone deaf
But still remains
Upon the beach where hound dogs bay
At ships with tattooed sails
Heading for the Gates of Eden

With a time-rusted compass blade
Aladdin and his lamp
Sits with Utopian hermit monks
Side saddle on the Golden Calf
And on their promises of paradise
You will not hear a laugh
All except inside the Gates of Eden

Relationships of ownership
They whisper in the wings
To those condemned to act accordingly
And wait for succeeding kings
And I try to harmonize with songs
The lonesome sparrow sings
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden

The motorcycle black madonna
Two-wheeled gypsy queen
And her silver-studded phantom cause
The gray flannel dwarf to scream
As he weeps to wicked birds of prey
Who pick up on his bread crumb sins
And there are no sins inside the Gates of Eden

The kingdoms of Experience
In the precious wind they rot
While paupers change possessions
Each one wishing for what the other has got
And the princess and the prince
Discuss what's real and what is not
It doesn't matter inside the Gates of Eden

The foreign sun, it squints upon
A bed that is never mine
As friends and other strangers
From their fates try to resign
Leaving men wholly, totally free
To do anything they wish to do but die
And there are no trials inside the Gates of Eden

At dawn my lover comes to me
And tells me of her dreams
With no attempts to shovel the glimpse
Into the ditch of what each one means
At times I think there are no words
But these to tell what's true
And there are no truths outside the Gates of Eden

Make me smile (come up and see me)
Steve Harley

You've done it all, you've broken every code
And pulled the rebel to the floor
You spoilt the game, no matter what you say
For only metal - what a bore!
Blue eyes, blue eyes, how come you tell so many lies?

Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild

There's nothing left, all gone and run away
Maybe you'll tarry for a while
It's just a test, a game for us to play
Win or lose, it's hard to smile
Resist, resist, it's from yourself you have to hide

Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild

There ain't no more, you've taken everything
From my believe in Mother Earth
How can you ignore my faith in everything
When I know what Faith is and what it's worth
Away, away, and don't say maybe you'll try

Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, run on wild

IF THE MOUNTAIN WILL NOT COME TO MOHAMMED, MOHAMMED WILL GO TO THE MOUNTAIN - "If one cannot get one's own way, one must adjust to the inevitable. The legend goes that when the founder of Islam was asked to give proofs of his teaching, he ordered Mount Safa to come to him. When the mountain did not comply, Mohammed raised his hands toward heaven and said, 'God is merciful. Had it obeyed my words, it would have fallen on us to our destruction. I will therefore go to the mountain and thank God that he has had mercy on a stiff-necked generation.' The saying has been traced back in English to 'Essays,' (1625) by English philosopher Frances Bacon (1561-1626). It was included in John Ray's book of English proverbs in 1678. First attested in the United States in 'Jonathan Belcher Papers' (1733). In German, the phrase translates as 'Wenn der Berg nicht zum Propheten kommt, mu?der Prophetzum Berg kommen." From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996).

I put the "?" in the German phrase because there was a do-jigger that I don't have.

I always thought this saying meant if you can't get a job done one way, do it another way.

When I've taken my own text some distance I often feel an urge to watch some film or TV or image or read something. Continuing my text it seems like I'm having a dialogue with all these other people trying to communicate something through various media. I try to listen carefully to what the others say and/or mean. Sometimes I have objections. Sometimes I agree. Sometimes I take the privilege of changing subject. I feel like I'm in an animated discussion with communicators from all places and times.
